Ray Vater, 78, of Danbury, CT, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2013.
Ray was born in Hastings, NE on October 15, 1935. He graduated from Southern High School in Wymore NE, and then enlisted in the US Army. He was a tank mechanic with the 7th Tank Battalion 3rd Armored Division.
Ray married his beautiful wife Mary (Maura) Seery on August 2, 1958 and they were happily married for 55 years.
Ray worked as a foreman for General Motors until his retirement. He most enjoyed spending time with his family, working on cars, watching the birds, and was always surrounded by loving friends and family members who would come to visit and were always made welcome.
Ray is survived his wife Maura, son Danny Vater of Middletown RI, daughter Laura Taylor of Danbury CT, 8 loving grandchildren: Heather, Eric, Christopher, Kelley, Randall, Ray, Nicholas, and Logan, and one great-grandson Skylar. Ray leaves one sister, Hazel, and also many nieces and nephews, and all of his friends that he also considered to be family. Ray was proud to be called Pop-pop by all of them.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Cora Vater, brothers Jack, Frank, Larry, Joe, Tom, Bob and Fred, and his sister Rosalie.
