Adele Schwenk, 81, of Danbury, wife of the late Ludwig âLouâ Schwenk, died peacefully at Genesis Glen Hill on Wednesday, December 3rd. She was born in Thomsfelde, Germany on March 2, 1933, daughter of the late Ludwig and Ida (Lempke) Krueger. In 1951, at the age of 18, Adele was in Bremen, Germany preparing to make her way to the United States. It was in Bremen where she met her husband, Lou, who was immigrating as well. The two boarded separate ships, but Lou found her not long after they arrived. They married on January 16, 1954 and spent 57 years together. In their early years Adele worked alongside Lou as a superintendent in their apartment building. Adele was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to cook, bake and maintain her home for her family. She was a past member of the Edelweiss Club in Westchester, NY. She will be sadly missed by her son, Edgar Schwenk and his wife, Marielena of Brewster, NY; her two daughters, Elizabeth Sturm of Commack, NY, and Susan Fox and her husband, Francis Colin Fox of Brewster, NY; her five grandchildren, Daniel Sturm, Matthew Sturm and his wife, Camille, Rachel Sturm, Brian and Christopher Fox. She is also survived by her sister, Rita Kuhls of Germany; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Lou, she was predeceased by her son-in-law, Michael Sturm; and her brother Reinhold Krueger.
