Rita M. Westphal, 89, formerly of Brookfield, beloved wife of the late Sylvester Westphal, died peacefully on Saturday, June 7 in the presence of family. Margherita Carlino was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 11, 1925, daughter of the late Jasper Carlino and Giovanna Maria (DiSanti) Carlino . Mrs. Westphal was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Brooklyn, NY , where she attained the position of Senior Regent . In addition she was also an active member of the Grandmother’s Club and the Tuesday club. At the age of 85 still maintaining her enthusiasm for new experiences she joined the Brookfield YMCA where she enjoyed swimming and other exercise programs . Playing Pokeno on Tuesdays with her friends at the Rolling Wood Club House in Brookfield was another favored activity. An avid shirt and dressmaker, she was happy to share her talent with her family and loved ones. She will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Laura and her husband, Dr. Paul Ruggiero of Redding, Linda and her husband, Steven Feldstein of Weston; her six grandchildren, Christian Ruggiero and his wife, Emily, Dr. Jason Ruggiero and his wife, Caroline, Richard Ruggiero and his wife, Olga and Leah, Sarah and Rachel Feldstein. She is also survived by one great grandson, Wiley Ruggiero. Rita will forever be remembered for her warmth, her graciousness and her generosity.
