Mr. Robert (Bob) E. Decker, 76, of Newtown, passed away at Danbury Hospital on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. He was the husband of Connie (Henderson) Decker, to whom he was married for 53 years.
Bob was born on February 28, 1937 in Jersey City, NJ, son of the late Harold and Marie (Leeker) Decker. He worked as a systems engineer, and later as a consultant for IBM for over 37 years. As a member of the Lions Club in Westerly, RI, Bob enjoyed working with Habitat for Humanity. Bob enjoyed boating and having friends and family gather at his home in Shelter Harbor, RI. Bob was counted on by friends and family to fix anything that needed to be repaired. He was never seen without his toolbox. Bob was a patient, kind and gentle man who never had a bad word to speak about anyone. Most of all, Bob loved spending time with his family and teaching his 11 grandchildren.
Besides his wife Connie, he leaves behind two sons, Ken and his wife Maureen Decker of Bethel and their children, Brett, Kenny, Julia and Sean; Rob and his wife Lori Decker of Foxboro, MA and their children, Dan, Ellen, C.J. and Kevin; a son-in-law, Dennis Durbin of Jenkintown, PA and his children Maddi, Jack and Will; a sister, Ruth and her husband Grover Estes of Lyndhurst, NJ, and many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by a daughter, Joanne Durbin; two brothers William and Harold Decker; and a sister, Doris Galt.
