Margaret Grace Hults, AGE 89, of Bethel, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Maplewood at Stony Hill. She was the wife of the late Gordon Hults, Sr. She was born in Danbury, a daughter of the late Silvio and Grace (Datella) Gerali. She and her husband raised their children in Bethel. Maggie worked in the cafeteria at Bethel High School for over 54 years. On the 50th Anniversary of her employment, she was honored for her dedication, kindness and spirit of generosity. The honors continued when the newly designed cafeteria was named “Maggie’s Cafe”. Maggie said that everyone at Bethel High School was her second family. She was a devout parishioner of St. Mary Church. Maggie enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother; she will be greatly missed. She is survived by 2 sons: Gordon Hults, Jr. and his wife, Laurie and Gary Hults all of New Milford; 4 grandchildren: Amy Hults-Juhls and her husband, Carl, Kristy Hults-Burch and her husband, Matt, Michael Hults and his wife, Emily, and David Hults; 6 great grandchildren: Maizie, Brayden and Emily Juhls, Maia Burch, and Olivia and Spencer Hults, and several cousins.

Heidi Johanna Bodner, age 73 of Danbury passed away on October 14th with family by her side. She was the loving wife of William F. Bodner. Heidi was born November 30, 1941 in Frankfurt, Germany, the daughter of Robert and Irmgard (Emmel) Metzger and granddaughter of Johanna (Mama) Wenzel. At age 9 she moved to the US and was a resident of Danbury since 1965. In addition to her husband Bill of 56 years, Heidi is survived by her children: James Bodner of Brookfield, William N. Bodner of Keller, TX, and Johanna Bodner-Salvino and her husband Don of Wilton. Known as Oma by her eight grandchildren: Stephanie, James, Emily, Riley and Bryce Bodner, Mya, Ava, and Hannah Salvino, and great granddaughter Fayth Bodner.

Robert H. Brady, 69, of Brookfield, beloved husband of Carolyn (Zuba) Brady, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, October 18th, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 1, 1946, son of the late Hugh and Elvira (Rick) Brady. Mr. Brady worked as a Director of Electrical Engineering for many years. He began his career with Sikorsky in Stratford, and later developed many patents in engineering for area companies including, Wentworth Labs, LORAD, Kimchuck and Honeywell. He was a former member of the Brookfield Jaycees. He enjoyed summers at the Jersey Shore house, golfing, dancing, and playing trivia games. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, and never missed a game. His happiest moments were spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He always had a smile on his face, and was known for his subtle, yet witty humor. His family will cherish their many happy memories, and remember him, not only for his overwhelming love and guidance, but for his patience and gentle hand. Charles F. Donofrio – February 21, 1921 – October 24, 2015
Charles F. Donofrio, 94, of Danbury, beloved husband of Aurelia (Tierney) Donofrio, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 24th. He was born in Danbury on February 21, 1921, son of the late Rocco and Rose (Monestero) Donofrio. He was a graduate of Danbury High School. He worked with his family at Select Music on Main Street and later owned and operated Select Antenna. In high school Charlie was a talented tennis player. He won the Connecticut State Open Championship, lead his team to four Fairfield County Championships, and went on to the National Championship in Indiana. He was also the City of Danbury Tennis Champion for 11 years. Charlie enjoyed sharing his talent, coaching tennis for many years at Danbury and Immaculate High Schools. In 1968, Charlie won the Class AA State Horseshoe title. In 1997, he was inducted into the Connecticut Horseshoe Pitchers Association Hall of Fame and was recognized for his exceptional skill and talent. In 1993 he received the Old Timers honors for his many accomplishments in tennis, horseshoes and boxing. Charlie enjoyed planting and tending to his vegetable gardens, and playing cards with his friends at the Catholic War Veterans. He was known to be quite the “crooner” and would entertain his family at Christmas gatherings. Although he will be deeply missed, he has left us all with so many amazing memories that he will remain forever in our hearts. In addition to his cherished wife of 71 years, Aurelia, he will be sadly missed by his six children, Charles E. (Caryn), Rosaly (Billy Michael), Beverly Urban (Greg), Vincent, Carrie (Debbie), and Sheri Gillotte (Darryl); his eighteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Vincent and Richard; and his sister, Edith Culhane.

Dorothy Moschetta, 85, of Brookfield, wife of the late Salvatore Moschetta, died on Friday, October 30th at Filosa in Danbury. She was born on June 12, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Charles and Elsie (Thomson) Essenson. Dorothy was a resident of Brookfield for 17 years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and loved watching sports, especially the NY Mets and Yankees. Most importantly, she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by her two sisters, Edith Williams of Brookfield, Virginia Tomlinson of Virginia and by local family, Elise Miller (George), Lindsay Hayduk, John Hayduk and Tyler Buttendorf. She is also survived by four nieces, Margaret Pinchok, Dorothy Zelnick, Maureen Poynton, Kathy; and nephew Paul Essenson, as well as many great nephews and nieces. Dorothy is predeceased by her daughter, Anne L. Ferrante, brother, Charles Essenson, and sister, Hazel Dougherty.

Frances M. Rotundo, age 77, formerly of Beechwood Dr., Danbury, died on Sunday, November 1, 2015, at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Robert J. Rotundo. Frances was born in Danbury on February 9, 1938, a daughter of the late John and Myrtle (McNamee) Kovacs. She was an avid bowler and trophy winning member of many Danbury leagues. She liked to travel and listening to country music. She enjoyed being a homemaker and especially being a grandmother. Frances is survived by two brothers: John Kovacs and Joseph Kovacs both of Florida; a stepdaughter, Norie-Mae Dwyer of Waterbury; two grandsons: Kristopher Dwyer and Kevin Dwyer of Waterbury; 2 great grandchildren: Isabella and Kasey; a brother-in-law: Bernie Rotunda and his wife Joan; 2 sisters-in-law Joan Peek and Roberta Caraluzzi, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Philip B Tomaino – October 31, 2015
Philip B. Tomanio, age 84, of Danbury passed away peacefully at Bethel Health Care on the morning of October 31, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Marion (Tomer)for 53 years and caring dad to Rose (Schlemmer) and Susan (Barbarotto). As a young man Philip worked for Mercedes Benz. He worked most of his adult life at Curtis Packaging in Sandy Hook. After his retirement; he worked at his favorite grocery store, Pathmark, and for Discount Liquor. Philip enjoyed cooking for his family; ravioli and Easter pie were his favorites. He loved to watch old movies and fondly remembered the day he watched an Alfred Hitchcock movie being filmed (Strangers on a Train) at the Danbury Train Station. The pride and joy of his life were his three grandchildren; Michael and Marissa Schlemmer and James Barbarotto (“Jimmy Bob”). He is also survived by his brother, Rocco of Danbury, sons-in-law Lou and Tim, sister-in-law Sandy Padilla (Tony) of Arizona, sister-in-law Lavina Tomer of Arizona, brother-in-law Charles Tomer of Greeneville Tennessee and brother-in-law James Tomer (Maxine) of Lake Tapps Washington. Philip was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Rose (Rosato) Tomanio; siblings: Teresina, Samuel and Vita, brother-in-law Richard Balfe and sister-in-law Norma Tomer. His sister, Theresa Balfe (in Florida), passed away hours after Philip on October 31, 2015. The family would like to thank all of the caring staff at Bethel Health Care Center that made Philip comfortable throughout his illness. A special thank you to two of his nurses Heather and Jessica, who always greeted all of us with a smile. In honoring Philip’s request, there will be no calling hours.

Ellen T. Pallisco, age 89 of Sherman, formerly of Danbury died on Thursday October 29th at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Vincent J. Pallisco. Ellen was born December 28, 1925 in Maynard, MA, the daughter of the late Edward and Ellen (Murray) Quinn. Ellen grew up in Massachusetts, and was a graduate of the Carney Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She had moved to Danbury in 1949 where she was employed as a registered nurse at Danbury Hospital. In 1956, Ellen opened the R.N. Nursery School and was its owner and director until 2001. She was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Danbury. Ellen is survived by her children: Connie T. Kulowiec and her husband John of Garner, NC, Ron Pallisco and his wife Sarah of Westborough, MA, and Vincent V. Pallisco of Sherman, one brother: John Quinn of Danbury, six grandchildren: Lisa Tarafay, Nicoma Kulowiec, Benjamin Gerow, Daniel Kulowiec, Vienna Pallisco, and Vinnie Pallisco, seven great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. James Reed, 74, of Brookfield, husband of Sandy Reed, died peacefully after a long illness at Danbury Hospital on Wednesday, November 4th. He was born in Danbury on July 24, 1941, son of the late Erwin Reed and Emily Mattei. He was a graduate of Danbury High School. Jimmy was the owner and operator of Jimmieâs Market on Germantown Road in Danbury for many years. During that time he gave many area teens their first job, teaching them the importance of taking pride in your work, customer service with a smile, and shared his strong work ethic. Upon retirement from the market, Jimmy went on to become a familiar face at Home Depot Tool Corral Hardware Department. He was a talented woodworker, crafting his own furniture for others, or finding pieces he could refinish to look better than when they were new. He loved to cook, and eat chocolate and candy. In addition to his wife of 34 years, Sandy, he will be sadly missed by four children, Michelle (Reed) Binkauskas and her husband, Ron, Terry Ann Kolodjieski and her husband, Edward, Mark Osiecki, and Sharyl Osiecki; his three grandchildren, Danielle and Michael Binkauskas and Sara Osiecki; and his brother, Robert Reed. Mary E. Uhle, 73, died unexpectedly, at home surrounded by her family, on Thursday, November 19th. She was born in New York, NY on May 25, 1942, beloved daughter of the late Alfred and Mary J. (Timoney) Uhle. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education from St. John University. She is the published co-author of the book âWhere Credit is Dueâ and served proudly as President of the Teacherâs Union and Brewster Teacherâs Association for many years. While Mary was passionate about education and found great satisfaction in her 32 years of teaching English, the center of her life was her family. Her love and generosity were showered upon all she loved. She lived for the time she could spend with her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She instilled the love of reading and was a constant cheerleader for whatever they each chose to do, whether it be a sport or a musical. She loved to give special time to each child which often resulted in trips to the circus, Basketball or Baseball Halls of Fame or a theatrical production. She was also a volunteer and past president of the Putnam Country Children’s Committee, working to help children in need. You could always find Aunt Mary watching the Hallmark Channel or SVU while doing her gorgeous needle work which she would loving give in celebration of major life events. These many items will be cherished by all who gifted with them. She will be sadly missed by her two sisters, Pat Leopold of FL, and Judy Fosina and her husband Bob of NY; her four nephews, Robert Leopold (Robbin) of CA and their children Patrick, Miranda Nikki, Robert Fosina (Dorothy) of CT and their children Mikayla, Bobby and Michael; James Fosina (Marina) of CT and their children RaeAnn, Christie, Marissa and Nicolas; David Leopold (Kisha) of FL and their children Taylor, Austin, Idel and Janae; her three nieces, Julie DeLuca (Vinny) of CT and their children Lorenzo and Vincent; Kim Luis of FL and her children Christopher, Judah and Domineeka; and Kelliann Murphy (Brian) of NY and their children Brianna, Kellina and Brian. She is also survived by her best friend Fran Bubley. She was predeceased by her Brother-in-law Bob Leopold and nephew, Victor Luis. These two men were very special to her and the loss of them left a great void in her life.

John J. Bacich – December 15, 1928 – November 20, 2015
John Joseph Bacich passed away on Friday, November 20th at the Alzheimer’s Resource Center in Plantsville. He was born in Staten Island, New York on December 15, 1928, the eldest of two sons of Christopher and Doris Bacich. A 1951 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, John abided by the motto of the Academy, “Acta Non Verba” (deeds not words), throughout his life. He served his country during the Korean War aboard the LST 854 as Chief Engineering Officer. Upon discharge, he began a long career as an engineer, initially with Sperry Corp. After relocating his family from Long Island to Brookfield in 1969, John continued his career with Perkin-Elmer where he found personal and professional satisfaction in being part of the team that worked at the heart of the Hubble Space Telescope project. John also held several U.S. Patents for devices he developed while at Perkin-Elmer and later SVG. John loved his family, his boat (the “Wee Six”), building furniture, fixing cars, wood carving, repairing broken things, sports, and discussing politics. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathleen of Brookfield; three daughters, Cathleen and Nancy of New York City, and Jacqueline of San Francisco; a son, Christopher of New Milford; and five cherished grandchildren, Ali, Jordan, Hillary, Shannon, and Matthew. He is also survived by a brother, Rudolf of Manchester, NJ. He was predeceased by his daughter, Lisa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 28th at 10:00am at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church in Brookfield. Burial will St. Peter Cemetery will be at a later date. Walter G Bittorf – November 27, 2015
Walter George Bittorf, age 87, of Danbury died peacefully surrounded by his family at Danbury Hospital on November 27, 2015. He was the devoted husband of Dorothy (Moehlin) Bittorf. Mr. Bittorf was born in New York City, the only child of the late Gustav and Katerina (Grotheer) Bittorf. He interrupted his education to proudly serve with the US Navy Seabees during World War II. Only a few weeks ago, he was awarded three medals in recognition of his service by the Department of Military Affairs and State of Connecticut. During the war, he attended trade school and after the war, he became a machinist for Chayes Dental. He and his family followed the company to Danbury where they made their home. After 24 years, he began his own business, Danbury Manufacturing. He was a longtime member of the New Fairfield Congregational Church where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Bittorf enjoyed playing golf and horseshoes, bowling, traveling, and spending summers in Maine. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Every grandchild holds fond memories of watching Grandpa’s ritual of setting up the court for his badminton tournaments and that he always had gum to share with them. He proudly cheered them on at their various sporting activities. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be greatly missed. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, of 66 years, he is survived by 2 daughters: Debra Bolmer and her life partner, Clint Bean of Grantham, NH; Diane Passander and her husband, John of Waterbury, CT; 4 grandchildren: Adam and Marivee Passander, Melinda Passander; Ryan Bolmer; and Rachael Meade and her husband Branden; 5 great grandchildren: Adam, Jonathan, Chloe, Arianna, Alexander; and 2 nephews Richie and Alan Kolessar of Florida. John Vincent Stocks, III, 51, of Bethel, died after a long gallant battle with cancer on December 1st in Danbury Hospital, surrounded by family and friends. Survived by his amazing wife, Mary (Cotsonas) and devoted father to his four children, Alexandria, John “Buddy”, Michael and Nicolette Stocks all of Bethel. John was the son of John Vincent Jr. (2005) and Bernadette (Callahan) Stocks (2012) and his in-laws, Jack and Madeline Cotsonas of AZ. Brother to Kim Ann Stocks-Paton of NY, Madeline (Cotsonas) and Roger Bellamy, John and Kim Cotsonas, Jennifer Cotsonas, and Matthew and Annete Cotsonas. Cherished God-Father to Kristen, Zachary, Hayden, Mary Helen, Jamie, Matthew. John was a loving presence in the lives of many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear close family friends. John was a self-employed inspector at Phoenix Home Inspection & Services. He used his God given talents to help others. He served the Knights of Columbus as both, a 4th Degree Knight with John D. Kennedy Assembly and Past Worthy Grand Knight with Pavia Council #48. He contributed to many mission trips with St. Mary’s youth groups, coached Bethel Softball, and was a Boy Scout leader. John was a very active parishioner of St. Mary’s Church and was a recent recipient of the St. Augustine Medal.

Robert L. Van Horson, 72, of New Fairfield, beloved husband of Peg (Colbert) Van Horson, died peacefully on Sunday, December 6th. He was born in Mount Vernon, NY on October 30, 1943, son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Wadhams) Van Horson. Robert held various masters’ degrees relating to education. He loved being a high school English teacher for Yorktown High School, retiring after 38 years, and was also a professor of communications at Western Connecticut State University for a number of years. Robert was a parishioner of St. Edward the Confessor Church, a past member of the New Fairfield Jaycees, and enjoyed supporting the Friends of the New Fairfield Library. He had a passion for his family and friends, and loved reading, golfing, horse racing, and music. His signature sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and he will most be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. In addition to his cherished wife, Peg, he is survived by his two daughters, Kirsten Lange and her husband Scott, and Jill Carney and her husband, Patrick; his three grandchildren, Grace and Faith Lange, and Peter Carney; his sister, Jan Summers; and his sister-in-law, Dede Malpass and her husband, John. Richard Donald Holick, Jr. age 65, died unexpectedly at his New Milford home on Wednesday, December 9, 2015. He was the son of the late Richard Donald Holick, Sr. and the late Charlotte (Romaine) Holick. Mr. Holick graduated from WestConn with a Masters in English; for many years he taught ESL classes at Naugatuck Valley Community College. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Viet Nam War. He continued his service in Okinawa as a HALO trainer. Most recently, he was employed as a general manager at Mitchell Oil. Mr. Holick was an avid member of the Society for Creative Anachronisms; his name in the Society was âRichard Just Richardâ. He enjoyed fishing and spent most summers on the Candlewood/Squantz Pond causeway with his friends. Most of all he was a loving father, grandfather and brother who will be greatly missed. He is survived by his 4 children: Deanna Holick and her wife, Remi of Wallingford, Richard Donald Holick, III of Danbury, Elizabeth Holick of Terryville, and James Holick and his fiancé Heather Donovan of Bristol; a granddaughter: Justice Vasquez; and his sister Cindy Holick of Danbury; one nephew: Michael Luis and several friends.

Robert Charles Hau, of Danbury, beloved husband of Mary Ann, passed away suddenly on December 10th at 69 years of age. He was born February 2, 1946 in Weehawken, NJ. He joins his parents, William and Edith and his sister Sandra in heaven. As a child he loved to play with his dogs, fish and spend time outside. Robert leaves behind the love of his life, Mary Ann, of forty years. They met at Sperry in Lake Success, NY. After they married, they moved to Naugatuck to raise their three children. They spent their retirement years on Candlewood Lake enjoying time with family. They also fulfilled their dreams as globe traveling lovebirds. Wonderful memories they shared include trips to Italy, France, National parks of America, and the Caribbean. He leaves behind three children, Valerie Fortney (Matt), William (Emily) and Robert (Elaine) and six grandchildren- Katelyn, Aaron, Eric, Bradley, Catherine and Jacob. Extended family who will miss him dearly include his brother in law Thomas (Marlene), nieces Christine, and Kerry Ann, and nephews Timothy (Jennifer) and Thomas. Fond family memories revolved around his love of fishing and waterskiing on Candlewood Lake. He was an Eagle Scout, Veteran of the Navy and an engineer for Sperry, Lorad and Hologic. He loved to plan his garden every year on graph paper, and monitor the weather and changes in barometric pressure. His family enjoyed the products of his labor: delicious tomatoes and a meticulously manicured lawn. Special thanks to the medical personnel who tried to save Robert and caring nurse who comforted Mary Ann at Danbury Hospital in her time of need.
