Philip B. Tomanio, age 84, of Danbury passed away peacefully at Bethel Health Care on the morning of October 31, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Marion (Tomer)for 53 years and caring dad to Rose (Schlemmer) and Susan (Barbarotto). As a young man Philip worked for Mercedes Benz. He worked most of his adult life at Curtis Packaging in Sandy Hook. After his retirement; he worked at his favorite grocery store, Pathmark, and for Discount Liquor. Philip enjoyed cooking for his family; ravioli and Easter pie were his favorites. He loved to watch old movies and fondly remembered the day he watched an Alfred Hitchcock movie being filmed (Strangers on a Train) at the Danbury Train Station. The pride and joy of his life were his three grandchildren; Michael and Marissa Schlemmer and James Barbarotto (“Jimmy Bob”). He is also survived by his brother, Rocco of Danbury, sons-in-law Lou and Tim, sister-in-law Sandy Padilla (Tony) of Arizona, sister-in-law Lavina Tomer of Arizona, brother-in-law Charles Tomer of Greeneville Tennessee and brother-in-law James Tomer (Maxine) of Lake Tapps Washington. Philip was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Rose (Rosato) Tomanio; siblings: Teresina, Samuel and Vita, brother-in-law Richard Balfe and sister-in-law Norma Tomer. His sister, Theresa Balfe (in Florida), passed away hours after Philip on October 31, 2015. The family would like to thank all of the caring staff at Bethel Health Care Center that made Philip comfortable throughout his illness. A special thank you to two of his nurses Heather and Jessica, who always greeted all of us with a smile. In honoring Philip’s request, there will be no calling hours.
