Antone L. âTonyâ Arnold, age 86 of Danbury died on Thursday March 26 th at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Muriel A. (Hartop) Arnold. Tony was born February 14, 1929 in Fall River, MA, the son of the late Antone and Mary (Monez) Arnold. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Army, and had served in Germany and most of Europe during WWII. While serving he was a member of the First Engineer Combat Battalion and worked constructing the first ever pontoon bridges that his Battalion floated down the Rhine river. Once on site, these bridges were installed in about 5 hours and helped win the war by allowing tanks and troops cross into German territory. He later served in the Korean War, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. Following his military service, Tony worked as a union carpenter with Local 210 Danbury for 50 years later served as Vice President. He later worked with Danbury Hospital as a carpenter until the time of his retirement. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Danbury, and volunteered with Boy Scout Troop 168 in Danbury for several years. Tony was an avid Giants, NASCAR, and Boston Red Sox fan, and especially enjoyed spending special times with his wife Muriel, and their children and grandchildren. In addition to his wife Muriel, Tony is survived by his children: Gregory Antone and his wife Sue of Brookfield, Lee Arnold and his wife Lisa of New Fairfield, Mark Arnold of Danbury, and Wendy Olejniczak and her husband David of Danbury, nine grandchildren: David Olejniczak Jr., Deanna Olejniczak, Kristina Checchia and her husband Anthony, Kimberly, Mark, Jimmy, Sean, Julia, and Bridget Arnold, four great grandchildren: Zachary and Maxwell Checchia, Madison and Isabella Arnold, one brother: Robert Arnold of TN, four sisters: Irene Sears of MA, Joan Guiman of FL, Beatrice Livingston of FL, and Dorothy DeRosa of MA. Tony was predeceased by his brother Gerald Arnold, and one Angel Grandson in Heaven, Lee George Arnold II.
