John J. Loya – April 14, 1924 – March 10, 2015

John J. Loya, 90, of Danbury, beloved husband of the late Marie (Garavel) Loya, died on Tuesday, March 10th at his home. He was born on April 14, 1924 in New Salem, PA, son of the late Michael and Mary (Cutz) Loya. He attended Danbury High School. John was a Veteran of World War II, proudly serving in the United States Army Air Force. He was a recipient of the European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Ribbons and Good Conduct Ribbon. Following his military service, John worked as a manager for Sears Roebuck and was a model for Bill Joli Studios in Danbury. He was most well known for his picture on the cover of Perry Mason, by Erle Stanley Gardner and advertisements for General Electric in Life Magazine and other various publications. He also enjoyed owning and operating the luncheonette, The Candlewood Spa, in Brookfield, and later worked for Bragg Motors in Danbury. He retired as a custodian for the City of Danbury at the Danbury Library and City Hall, after more than twenty years of employment. John’s hobbies included boating and fishing. In his later years he loved to travel. He was also a talented photographer who captured the beauty of his family and nature. He will be sadly missed by his son Kenneth J. Loya and his wife Patricia, with whom he made his home in Danbury, his two daughters Linda Anderson and her husband Christopher of Glastonbury, Christine M. Intravia and her husband Richard of Hebron; his sister Mary Kayser of New Milford, his two brothers Stephen Loya of New Fairfield and George Loya of Bethlehem. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Eric Loya and his wife, Tricia, Caryn Clayton and her husband, Scott, Jonathan Loya and his wife, Catherine, Kyla and Kaitlin Anderson; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his daughter Carolyn Wright; his brothers Michael, Andrew Loya and Joseph Loya; and his sister Irene.
