Mrs. Nancy Phyllis DeMunnik passed away on October 9, 2014 at age 66 following a long, difficult fight with cancer. Born in 1948 to Philip and Irene Toussaint she attended Danbury Public Schools and graduated from Danbury High School. She subsequently attended St.Maryâs School of Nursing where she graduated with a Registered Nursing Degree. Upon graduation, she was employed at Danbury Hospital where she worked in both the pediatric and later the rehabilitation units. Following her work as a nurse she volunteered at St. Gregoryâs School as a reading specialist. Nancy was fond of the saying âreading is knowledge, it is the light which places ignorance in the pastâ. Following St. Gregoryâs she was employed with the Danbury public schools for 27 ½ years as a Para-professional, a job in which she taught young students to read. Nancy loved working with children and inspired by example, being an avid reader herself. Among her many interests were camping in the Lake George and Rhode Island areas with her loving family. Nancyâs passing to heaven was preceded by that of her mother Irene Toussaint and her brother Richard Toussaint. Nancy is survived by her loving and devoted husband Gregory DeMunnik of 45 years, her grateful and loving son Brandon DeMunnik and granddaughter Lauren DeMunnik. She is additionally survived by her father Phillip Toussaint, Uncle Fernie and Aunt Deloris Toussaint, Aunt Marie Toussaint and several cousins. Nancy was a loving wife and caring mother whose loss leaves a tremendous void in her family. The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers of the Praxair Center at Danbury Hospital for their dedication, compassion and care given Nancy in her fight against cancer.
