Rita (Carbone) Thal, 98, of Danbury, wife of the late Rolf J. Thal, died peacefully in her sleep at her home on Tuesday, January 21st. She was born on March 4, 1915 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Donato and Bernarda (Triola) Carbone. She graduated from Brooklyn College with a B. A. degree in French.
Rita was a kind and generous woman who gave freely of herself to the community. She was a past president of Beaver Brook PTA, was a board member of Family and Childrenâs Aid since 1972; was an original board member of Regional Hospice, and board member of Ability Beyond Disability, and served as a past president of the Danbury Garden Club where she was also an honorary life member. She was also a very active supporter of the United Jewish Center; was a founder of Aunt Nellieâs Attic, and was a member of the Committee of a Thousand.
Rita was most proud of her 50 years of continuous service as a volunteer at the Danbury Hospital Coffee Shop.
She will be sadly missed by her son Richard W. Thal (Caroline Chauncey) of Cambridge, MA;
her daughters, Barbara Hodes (Robert) of Toronto, Canada; Evelyn Toynton (Norman) of Norfolk, England; five grandchildren Ian Hodes (Sarah), Joseph Hodes (Masha Perlman), David Hodes (Nadine Giguere), Rebecca Thal, Daniel Thal, and six great grandchildren.
