Joseph J. âJoeâ Novella, age 89 of Danbury passed away peacefully on Friday, September 13, 2013 with his family by his side. Joe was born in Danbury on November 23, 1923. One of twelve children, he was the beloved son of the late John and Vincenza (Ross) Novella. His wife of 58 years, Sabina, preceded him in death in 2011. He was a great man and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who always helped those in need. He loved to travel to Florida, California, and Las Vegas and enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and Foxwoods. He especially enjoyed going to the movies every week with his wife Sabina.
Joe attended Danbury schools and while in high school, worked with his father in his fruit and vegetable business. A World War II Army veteran, Joe was a Tec 5 with the 877th Signal Co. and served in England, France, and Germany. He received a unit citation for meritorious service and the Good Conduct Medal.
Joe was the owner of Novellaâs Scrap Yard for over 60 years which he started with his brother Russell Novella. Joe unofficially retired at the age of 85 after having two hip surgeries in 2009.
Joe will be sadly missed by his son Joseph Novella Jr. and his wife Lori of Bethel, his daughter Sandra Novella and grandson Taylor Frank of Danbury, three sisters Frances Tykarski of Florida, Dorothy Scozzafava of Indiana, and Christine Killiany of Danbury and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brothers Russell, Michael, Anthony, and Richard Novella and sisters Mary Stavola, Rose Lostocco, Ann Sacco, and Helen Pastina.
Joeâs family would like to thank Danbury Health Care and Kwaku âChase âand Claudio from Danbury Nurses Registry who took great care of Joe. Their efforts were a tremendous help to Joe Jr. who took care of both of his parents over the last years of their lives.
